I want to talk to you about your personal brand or your personal consulting brand and why you should establish your company name under your personal name. Theres no need to create some agency or company name no one has heard of.
People buy from who they know, like and trust and at the end of the day you are the brand. You! ... that's who your clients are buying from and if you're just starting out or you're a single person consultancy, there's no better way to do it then just do it with your name.
You can see with my brand at PaulKlein.net that I just branded myself. It's who I am. It's what I do. When I first started out 10 years ago, I created a company name rather than using my personal name and looking back I think I would have been better off doing it under my name. Sure there are certain industries and situations where that might be more appropriate but I think overall your name is the best way to go.
The way that the future is going with the digital economy or whatever you want to call it......"digital revolution"........its about you and your brand and what you have to offer!
People don't care about credentials and credentialism and all that stuff. That's the old mentality.
The new mentality is being able to clearly and quickly identify who you are, what you have to offer and how you solve their problems.
You know, people care about how you can solve their problems not how many acronyms and letters are after your name or some fancy business name and so forth. Unless you're already a big company, established or something like that, just use your name.
It's easy. Go get your domain name right now at GoDaddy or one of the other domain registries and get your name reserved today! Registration is real easy, usually less than $15 a year and even if you don't use it right away get it now just so you have it ready to go when your ready to launch your personal consulting brand.
I was able to get mine under .net. - .com was taken already by some real estate agent in Florida. If your not sure which domain and extension to get to get, I would recommend trying in the following order:
Discover the best domain for your brand using my affiliate link for Weebly.
Keep it simple. You can do your middle initial and stay away from hyphens and funky characters. These are three of the main ones I would recommend and you can usually come up with some variation that'll work for you.
You would be surprised, but most names are still available unless you have some really common name as it's only been 10 years or so that the web has been around and really prevalent.
Go out there and get your domain name, start your company, get your LLC or your S Corp get going and get in the game!
The game of consulting is great and there's a wide world of opportunities out there for you if you just jump in and get going.
I would encourage you to download The One-Page Consulting Agreement. This is a great template that you can use to grow your consultancy. I have used this template to engage with many of my clients and brands like Cracker Barrel, Target, Slack, Taco Bell. Don't make it more complicated than it has to be!
